SYNOPSIS
After 50 years of quiet resentment and emotional neglect, Sanda (70), a retired kindergarten cook, decides to divorce her husband, a domineering man in declining health, and dreams of moving into a care home with her friend. Determined but worn down by legal barriers and social invisibility, Sanda begins a painful path toward freedom.
DIRECTOR
A Romanian producer and director at Wearebasca and Parada Film production companies, Mitcu directed several documentaries. Among them: Australia (2009) produced by HBO Romania, The Merry Circus (2010), Two of Us (2011), Maria (2013), Easter Memorial (2014), The Network (2015) co-produced by Parada Film and HBO Romania, The Trial (2017), Blană Bombă (Kids Rock, 2021). He also directed a few short films: My Luna (2020), 31 Hours (2021) and Another Spring (2024). He produced with one of his production companies, Wearebasca, documentary films such us Party and Contest in Ciupelnița, Dream Images and short films, Tie, Bad Penny, My Name is Costin. He also co-produced the short films Kowalski and Ramona, by Andrei Crețulescu, awarded in Cannes 2015 at Semain de la Critique with the Canal +Award. The most recent feature film he produced is Good Guys Go to Heaven (2024), directed by Radu Potcoavă and the most recent documentary he has directed is Hai, Româ nia! (2024). With the company Parada Film he co-produced Monsters, directed by Marius Olteanu, first feature that had its world premiere at Berlin Film Festival in 2019. He is also the producer of the documentary You are Ceaușescu to Me (2021), directed by Sebastian Mihă ilescu. More titles he produced are documentaries Eagles from Țaga (2022), directed by Iulian Manuel Ghervas and Adina Popescu, Playback (2023), directed by Iulia Rugină, and Why Do They Write on Walls? (2023), directed by Alin Boeru. In 2024, he directed his debut feature film, Rusalka.
